A maternity shoot is such a great way to document your story of becoming a mother. The photoshoot is just as much about you (not just your bump) boosting your confidence and making you feel beautiful.
Even if you feel nervous to have a photoshoot done and no matter how you’re feeling throughout your pregnancy a maternity shoot gives you a chance to feel like the awesome and beautiful mum to be that you are. I can promise you, it’s something you won’t regret. All my children love seeing photos of me pregnant.
When to have a maternity photoshoot
The suggested time to have a maternity shoot is when you are just coming out of the second trimester (between 28 and 34 weeks). Your energy levels will have increased as your body has adjusted to the surge of pregnancy hormones and your morning sickness should (hopefully) have subsided.
At this stage you may have heard people saying, ‘oh you’re glowing’. This is because your pregnancy hormones help retain moisture in the skin leaving it plumper, and skin cells renew more frequently. Even your hair feels thicker, with the pregnancy hormones increasing the amount of oil in your hair follicles making your hair look glossier and shinier. There’s no better time to have your photograph taken.
Stretch marks…no stress…
Worried about stretch marks? You’ve earned those stripes! But if you feel conscious of them and want me to fade them out or remove them completely using Photoshop, that’s absolutely fine.
Everyone feels different about them. Stretch marks happen to some and not others, this is simply determined by your skin type, with skin elasticity and genetics playing a role. If your mum got stretch marks, you are also more likely to get them. Saying that, my mum has zero stretch marks, and I did get them. When they first appeared, I was mortified but since I have grown older and look at my beautiful children, I have learnt to accept them and love them – yes, I still put that bikini on!
